Karingozhakkal Mani Mani (K. M. Mani) was born to Thomas Mani and Aleyamma Mani in 1933 at Marangattupalli, Palai, Kerala. At his very young age only K. M. Mani entered into INC (Indian National Congress) and become a full support activist in a shorter span. He practiced as a lawyer before entering into politics and served as the Kottayam DCC (District Congress Committee) Secretary from 1960 till the formation of Kerala Congress in 1964.
Mr.Mani is regarded as the ‘God Father’ of all factions of Kerala Congress parties in the state.
Since his beginning as a youth icon in Kerala congress, he continuously represented Palai legislative constituency. From 1965, He was the the MLA of Palai Legislative constituency and the winning journey continued for last 45 years. He is well known for his political tactics as comparable to late Congress Leader K. Karunakaran. Mani having the record of maximum number budgets (8) presented in Kerala Legislative Assembly as Finanace minister. He also having a record of being a Minister for longest period in the Kerala state, continuously represented a legislative assembly from palai, Kottayam with out experiencing a lost in long 45 years.
He was elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1965 from the Palai Constituency of Kottayam district, and since then he won all the ten elections that followed in 1965, 1967, 1970, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006. He was minister for Home Affairs (April 1977 to September 1978 and again from October 1978 to July 1979), Finance and Law (January 1980 – October 1981, December 1981-March 1982 and again from May 1982-March 1982-March 1986), Irrigation and law(1987), Revenue and Law(1987), Revenue and Law (June 1991 to March 1996).He is also the leader of Congress(M) legislative party.
In the new formatted Govt: of Kerala State 2011 Mr.Mani will hold the position of Finance and Law Minister.
